Games!

Who doesn’t like to fire up a freakin’ awesome computer game every now and then?

Let me cast your mind back to the late 1990’s. There were games released almost on a weekly basis right across the PC, PS1, and N64.
Times were good, and it didn’t matter which system you were on.

Recently, I had been feeling that games weren’t being released, or in as good quality, as they used to be. I guess its an “old” gamers thing, where nothing is as good as it used to be, and in all honstly this past year, for me as a PC gamer, looked bleak.

Then Modern Warfare 2 came along, and the news that the PC version of the game was being gimped. I snapped. I went out and bought a tone of games that had been recommended to me, MANY released in the past 6 months.

It was like my eyes had been opened up. Gaming wasn’t dying, the focus platform had just shifted. I’m not going to say that console gaming is the way of the future, its just where gaming is at, at the moment. Will it come back to the PC? Will it become more focused on mobile platforms? Will there be a new generation of consoles that it will move to? Only time will tell, but I shall ride this games wave now I’ve discovered where it is.

Oh, and for those who go “FPS can only been played on the PC”, that’s wrong, you just have to learn a new technique. Its not better. Its different.

PC Version gimped? I really don’t get what you mean by that (and you haven’t told me in IRC – prolly playing the game now xD).

I’ve had the joy of playing it on PS3, XBOX and my copy is on the PC. As far as graphics go, PC trumps PS3 which trumps Xbox. There’s no question there.

The only thing I can give super-duper-bonus-points to the Xbox for is the controller.

Sadly multiplayer is no different on the console versions to the PC versions but thankfully someone will solve that issue with a patch soon enough. The maps for multiplayer are pretty huge but only 18 players max is kind of weak.

And on a complete side note here, I love my new graphics card so much I want to have it’s babies. MMmmmmmmmmmmm.

    ^_^

The main draw card for me about playing games on the 360 is that I don’t need to upgrade constantly, and its just alot less hassle to get things working.

  3. rapidDazz says:

Exactly how long did I have my GPU before I upgraded? Was just over 4.2 years. How many new consoles come out every 5 years xD

    Your an exception.

Regardless, its still easier, and cheeper to own consoles for games. In my opinion.

Only if you don’t have a computer… ./shrug. BUT WE’RE OFF TOPIC! YOU IGNORED THE “PC version is gimped” – I don’t get it :(

Translated controls, fail multiplayer, no LAN support with no internet… should i keep going?

  7. rapidDazz says:

Translated controls….. Don’t follow you… they’re the same as the first one with a few minor changes (like it’s a switch to zoom instead of holding, which you can undo anyway).

Multiplayer fails across the whole game, that’s not limited to PCs…..

  8. DasBok says:

    Not on the 360 it isn’t :P

  9. rapidDazz says:

    It’s exactly the same……. identical………….

  10. DasBok says:

    No, its different. Very different.

    We have LAN!

And we don’t need to be online all the time!

    And we have achievements!

  11. rapidDazz says:

    achievements……. oh of course.

  12. DasBok says:

    You bagging on achievements?

  13. Craig says:

    Yes! *sigh* Keep Up!

  14. The_Muffin says:

on a side note consoles are slowing hardware requirements, and hardware has leaped ahead of what games need, so hopefully upgrades will be wider apart… tho i cant say for sure

  15. Craig says:

Hmmm…. Seems to be the case with Nintendo at least; Nintendo DS followed by DS Lite and DSi? Game Cube to Wii? They aren’t particular noteworthy hardware advancements – but are most definitely upgrades. Well, the wii introduced remotes – but hardware wise, it’s basically a gamecube.

From a development perspective, it is incredibly difficult to create a multiplatform application that will work as expected letalone a 3D game. Consoles – well you only need to target one and optimisation is easier (obviously).

PC version has achievements….. Only just noticed xD

  17. DasBok says:

PC Version has unlocks, not achievements.

    Big difference.

The Unlocks are in the 360 version as well, and are not tied to achievements.

I’d like… take screenshots and circle important words like “Achievements”…
