Much of Muchness
November 24th, 2008The whole turning 21 thing… you know how it is, its very hard to come up with how to party for it.
I spent AGES planning mine, I’m serious, I spent a whole minute considering a single idea. My brain hurt after all the thinking.
So yeh, I had a LAN for my 21st.
Seriously, what else could I do?
So there we are, 4 computers, all setup on either card-tables or on a coffee table, and tones of Call of Duty 4, FlatOut2, and Quake3 fun. I’m so glad I did this, beats the hell out of the whole “drink untill you are passed out” thing, ’cause you see, I get to remember this.
Quake3 was fairly non-event, my 1v1 with my old practice buddy Luke was a white-wash… kinda understandable since hes been out of action for over 12 months now. It was a score that would make Ycros happy, 31-1, and the Team Dethmatch was also a tone of fun.
Good fun hehe.
After those games was where we lost the bulk of our time. Call of Duty 4, game-type: sabotage.
For those who don’t know what sabotage is, its basically a more advance version of how Counter Strike plays.
You have TWO teams, and each team has a weapons stockpile, your objective is to blow-up this stockpile (lets call it a “bomb site”), now, to do this, there is a bomb that spawns in the middle of the map at the start of the game. One bomb for two teams.
Now each time a team plants the bomb (hard to do since its to be planted where the enemy respawns), it takes 30 seconds for it to blow, and 5 seconds to defuse.
Needless to say, its a fast and extremely fun game-type.
As it came to lunch, we decided, whichever team lost, was buying. So this is me and Nick, taking on Team JC; Luke and Gavin, heres some high-lights from the game:
- Game starting, me rushing towards to bomb, Nick throwing a grenade at the bomb at the same time as Gavin does. End result, my body flying across the map.
- Luke snipping successfully with a scorpion machine pistol, then when running out of ammo, snipping with a freakin silenced pistol! It was only a miss-fired RPG that got him.
- Me defusing the bomb with EXACTLY 0:00:01 on the bomb timer (its first to 4 wins, when you defuse, you get the bomb and plant it at their base), this happened a few times for both sides but at a more respectable 0:00:75 and above
- Firing a RPG from across the map, Luke stepping out from cover and recieving it between the eyes (confirmed by him yelling out what he saw)
- Game being lost by me and Nick as Nick tried to defuse the bomb with 0:05:01 on the clock.
So yeh, as you can see, we have fairly much fallen in love with this game-type.
After that was cake.
The cake was epic, on a scale more epic than any Lord of the Rings movie could ever be. Rachel really outdid herself, and Mike, who doesn’t like cake even loved it.
We got a sneak peek of it earlier in the day with shavings from it liberally distributed amongst us, as they were not needed for the final cake, and we could hear almost a full block of chocolate going into the iceing.
After cake, was FlatOut2. What LAN isn’t complete without a driver bowling competition?
For those who havn’t played a FlatOut game yet, basically, to bowl, you drive your car REALLY fast down a strait, and deliberately crash, sending your driver flying through the windshield, over a great distance, and into some giant pins trying to knock them over (i sware to God, this is an official game-mode).
Oh, and there are normal race-modes, where Nick decided to take his School bus for a trip over the mountians, then through a petrol station, and Luke took me out with a mob-car.
So why include this photo? Well, it shows the types of reactions you get from deliberatly crashing your car, and throwing the driver through the windshield, only to knock over 2 pins. .
