GreenTubeLAN 7

December 10th, 2007

Well, GreenTubeLAN 7 is over, and I guess I should warn the regualr readers about the Wall of Text that will most likely follow this.

So me and Orb!ter get to the hall and start setting up.

By the time its 11am, most of the hall is setup table wise, but only one half has a network, and the other half has power.
Anyho, at that time, Orb!ter’s phone rings, so we jump his car and head to Hallum station. Craig parking as far away as posible in the 1/2 pickup spots (couldn’t use ticketed spots), and walk upto the platform to wait.
Train comes, and our very own Duckbutt jumps out. Suitcase full of computer in tow.
Anyway, greetings are exchanged, and we whack Duckbutts gear into the car, and try to get him to the hall.

Now since this is the first time Duck has met me and Orb!ter outside of the ‘net, we can’t let him feel safe obvisouly, so some reckless driving, and a Coles stop which sees Craig “chatting up” the checkout chick later, we finaly get to the hall, where I dive back in to get power to the left side of the hall, and the network to the right side.

ANYWAY.

By about 12:30, only 30 minutes late, the hall is ready to rock, and everyone is getting into games.

First port of call for official games was Quake4, we were running a tourney for it, so I spawned some practice FFA servers, and jumped around with Duck, showing him some of the finer points (Still don’t think he knows how to butt-surf).

Anyway, our Duckbutt had some very close games, and seeing how well he picked up Quake4, made me eager to see his CSS skills.
In short, he came Third, only losing his semi-final game by less than a second. That is, his crosshair was ON the guy, Duckbutt rail in hand. Had his reactions been just a LITTLE quicker, it would have been overtime.
Ahh well, GG Duck, hope you liked the excess chocolate (each player got a chocolate bar for winning a round, and 3rd place got a large handfull of chocies).

Next game that was loaded up was…. hmm… I can’t really remember, I THINK it was BF2, but everything after that goes into a bit of a blur, as I was constantly on my feet running the event.
Oh wait, yeh it was BF2, got my arse handed too me, but it was fun doing charging runs with the dune buggie.

Then it was into FlatOut2.

This was the suprise hit of the LAN. It only allowed 8 people to play on a single server at a time, and it was a racing game. But it was fairly much on everyones screen.
It was awesome.
FlatMobil on DerbyBowl1 for the win!

After that, the Pizza’s arrived, so a group of about… 10 of us went outside, and we stayed there talking about anything and everything for about an hour whilst people ate.
I even managed to get in a bitch about Halo3, and I think Duck was supprised (in a positive way) at my real thaughts on Quake and the types of gamers showing upto GTL.
Not gonna share these thaughts with you guys, as it will destry my Quake3 elitisum faciade on here! dry.gif.

Followed by Quake3.
Now this wasn’t typical DasBok, nerdy 1v1 Quake3. This was a 12 v 12 Team Deathmatch on my custom map!
That got played for two rounds (yay! Red Team won twice tongue.gif Suck it blue!). Then it was the Admins, take EVERYONE.

Yup, thats 4 v 23.
We ONLY lost by 152 frags.

Anyway, at around 11pm, I had to go do “something”, and while I was out, Santa arrived.
Aparently he was Italian and was fairly thin for a Santa, and came accross a bit randy, and also seemed to have similar hair and glasses to me. wink.gif

Anyway, Santa went on an embarasment rampage, hugging everyone, announcing to the hall that one guy had 120gig of pr0n, and poked fun at others weight.
Only one person was game to sit on Santa’s lap tho.
Okok, I was Santa for this.

After the awards were done, and everyone said bye to Santa (and some getting their last hugs), I retreted outside, where I half-undressed, and stood around talking some more with the people outside.

I did this for about two hours, so Duck’s probably the better one to say what happened inside there.

After that, went back inside and played some Quake4 TeamDeathmatch and CTF, before Duckbutt, Ian_ and Rick_ decided to school me in CSS (fair enough, I WAS showing off in Q4). Fark.

I didn’t do too badly I think. I went fairly good with the M4, and got some really freaky Scout shots in. Duck kept complaining about how old the version was, and how “everything” was different. Even tho Rick_ and Ian_ adjusted fine. Altho thats expected, they play for Australia (in-joke from the night).
See guys! I’m not the only one who bitches about small things!
Still, gotta love Duck’s rush on Dust2 where he managed to take out Ian_ after I had blindly run out and him screaming “don’t!” at me.

All in all a good night.
