Awesome Q3A fun

September 28th, 2007

Well, LAN today.

Awesome fun, started off me and Luke A getting to Nick’s and helping him setup, I got my self comfortable, and setup, and went about getting on the network.
Then we decided, before we started playing, we decided to go wake Mike up. So we walked down the road, only to find his car already loaded and him slipping into the drivers seat.
So we chatted for a bit, before me and Luke decided to race Mike back down to Nick’s. This is, Mike in his car, me and Luke on our feet.
So we ran, and ran. Just before we reached Nick’s, Mike’s car came zooming past. He went too fast and overshot. By the time he got his car turned around, Nick had arrived back home by mearly walking, and Mike got his car to actualy stop.

So we setup, and Me, Nick and Luke started shooting around in Q3A whilst we waited for Mike to setup.
Now we didn’t know this at the time, but Mike’s network card had died. As in, compleatly dead.
Anyway, it came to half past 11, and I had to leave for Frankston temporarly, so I collected money, promising much goodies on my return.
On my return, I had: 4x Happy Faces, 12x DohnutKing Dohnuts.
Much thanks was passed around as Luke Murphy turned up.
Everyone settled back down, and we finaly convinced Mike to try a new network card.
So Mike got on the network, and coppied Q3A from my system.
Now, Nick and Luke M had started a 1v1 game, so whilst they played, I updated Mike, setting up his config, and team binds, showing him how the new movement system worked, how the new armor ratios work, and how the rail damage ratio works.
Then we loaded up a FFA on my map Hall.
So after we had wamed up, Mike wanted to finish his warmup in a FFA with bots, so he droped out, whilst we switched maps to pro-q3dm6, Team Deathmatch. Me and Nick, taking on Luke A and Luke M.
For the first half of the game, me and Nick were trailing by a good 20 frags, then it hit the 7 minute mark, and we made a come back, scores swinging both ways, noone being able to hold a quad longer than a single frag.
Then it hit 19:55, only five seconds left.
The scores were even, 56-56 if memory serves me correctly.
I saw Luke M drop off the RL platform down to the Quad chamber, and followed LG out, 19:57, I started shooting, slowly whittling his health away as he chased Nick with a RL., 19:58. Luke M dropped. The clock hit 20:00, the buzzer sounded. The game was done.
HOLY FUCK!
I screamed “Yes!” as I punched the air and stood up, shaking Luke and Luke’s hands, and giving Nick a hug (he seemed fairly happy about the win as well, altho not as over excited as I was). I actualy held Luke M’s palm to my chest, he could feel my heart beating.
Mike finaly got back in game, and we went back to Hall. This time, Me and Mike taking Luke, Luke and Nick.
It was a similar story, except me and Mike were down 15 frags, and there seemed no way of us comming back. Luke A had the Red armour room locked down, and Luke M had the Quad damage locked down, with Nick roaming around picking me and Mike, whilst we couldn’t do anything.
In desperation at the 15 minute mark, me and Mike made an attempt on the Mega, Mike got a few shotgun blasts in at Luke, and I finished him with the MG, I collected Mega, and a LG, then we both went outside, Mike got the RL, and we moved to the roof.
Mike dived for the read, just as Luke A was going for it. Mike got there just in time.
Then we moved for the oval.
A freshly spawned Luke M, with a rail confrunted us, I managed to hose him down with the LG, and Mike collected his Rail. Then Mike hit the jumppad and went flying to the Quad.
With 19 minutes just ticking onto the clock, we were still down, but 5 frags. I managed to grab the Quad, and went on the most scaryest Quad run ever. We advanced to 101 to 101 frags. Then we hit a few excelent shots.
101-104. Me and Mike just won. Altho, there was a good 15 seconds to the final count down, me and Mike just hid like little girls to hold onto our lead.
After that we laoded up some MechWarrior 4 vengence, where we played a team game against 5 computer bots.
I love using the Shadow Cat. Its awesome. Load some Medium Lasers onto it, and a AC-10, with a top speed of 102km/ph, this thing was an awesome scout Mech, I’d run out, Light up the heavys, and let Nick in his TimberWolf, Luke in his MadCat MK2, and Mike in his DireWolf, launch their LRMs without a lock. Then me and Luke A would just circle the mechs, letting loose with ACs and Medium lasers (he was in a Uziel).
Then we palyed some free for alls, in city maps.
Being in the only Light Mech made it so much fun just darting in and out of buildings taking pot shots, and weekening them. Yes, I didn’t win any games, but it was still awesome fun (no pun intended, Nick was using an Awesome in the city maps).

After that, it was dinner time. So we headed down the Patterson Lakes, and ended up having dinner there. Was yummy, whilst Luke Nick and Mike had Pizza, i ended up having Subway. Many jokes were made about how long it took the Pizza to arrive (”Next Pizza to arrive, at counter 1, will be the 7:06 Michael, running express from counter to stomach, then stopping all stations to toilet, departing in two minutes”).
Once we got back, it was a few CTF games on Q3A, and some comparison of internet deals.

All in all, and awesome day-LAN, and I shall be uploading some highlight videos, and ofcourse, the last few minutes of those two TDM games. Such awesome fun.

The Hall Of Doom

September 19th, 2007

Well, as many of you know, I’ve been working on a fairly large map on my laptop recently, and today it reached the point where it takes just too long for my laptop to -vis the thing when testing.

So I transfered GTK and the .map to my desktop, and not expecting much, just hoping to get use of my laptop while the goddman map compiled, i got a shock.

My desktop compiled the map WAY quicker than my laptop could ever hope to achieve. This is with less L2 cache! Surprised

I honstly didn’t expect this, i didn’t think from a pure grunt point of view that my desktop was any faster than my laptop. But I’m sitting here with GtkRadient compiling stage 3 of the PassagePortalFlows (of which I have 16996 aparently. No i have NO IDEA what any of that is), wheres my laptop failed to get past 0 in 2 hours. (and this is only 5 minutes into the compile btw).

September 9th, 2007

Well, I’ve kinda gotten a small addiction to Mechwarrior 3 and 4. Mostly 3, and I’ve been watching a ton of Battlemech on YouTube.

I’m just loving the whole Inner-sphear vs Clans war thing, its like a combination of the story from serenity and the Halo series, except 100 times cooler in ever which way.

I took the decision to bow out of the WGT online QUake4 qualifiers, deciding to put Uni work ahead of my passion, and going to Craig’s tutorial. There will be other tournaments I hope, the scene in Australia is slowly picking up, I jsut hope that Atomic don’t fuck this for everyone.

Oh, and my quote from today when going up the beach with Rachel: “I didn’t relise the gravvel track would have so much gravel”
